Winter is a magical time in Helen. To the west, the gold mining town of Dahlonega was an important center of activity in the 1800's. A US mint was built there and is now home to a historical gold museum. You can still tour the gold mines in the area. During October, Dahlonega hosts the Gold Rush days on the third weekend.
